The Baroness' Fetish Retinue Party, NYC
The Baroness will host a special Fetish Retinue party on June 1—the grand finale party of the 2014 New York Fetish Marathon. Click image to enlarge.

I’ll return to Bedlam on June 1 to cap off the 2014 New York Fetish Marathon weekend with a very special Fetish Retinue!

As usual, we’ll strictly prohibit blue jeans, white t-shirts, sneakers and baseball caps. The usual slideing-scale admission will reward fetish dress, especially those who dress to the extreme!

This party will be painful for some, and festive for all! Stay tuned for more details!

And for those who enjoyed our Holiday Fetish Retinue at the gorgeous Kingston Hall in December, we have finally posted photos here. Apologies for the delay!

The Baroness’ Twentieth Anniversary Champagne Party

Thursday night at the boutique we celebrated my twentieth anniversary as “the Grand Dame of Latex”. Champagne flowed, old friends appeared, and lube was liberally applied.

Friend and fetish model Jade Vixen was an instant hit in several of my new dresses and a halter top & short tight skirt. Alexis looked fabulous in the Baby Doll dress. Mr. Mahj (the cat) was particularly sociable.

Thank you to friends old and new who came to show support and have a little fun. Special thanks to glenar for once again serving as bartender and entertaining bon vivant, and to my main latex tech, Persephone, who—among many other things—baked an amazing display of delicious cupcakes.

For more information on our Twenty Year Celebration, read the press release.

A Force for Change: The Baroness Drives Latex from Fetish to Fashion

Twenty years ago there were only three latex designers in all of North America and only one in New York: The Baroness. Beginning in a small studio in 1994, The Baroness was a pioneer, selling her latex fashions to private clients by appointment only, and wholesale to select boutiques. In 1995 she launched the world’s first online latex clothing store, at Baroness.com.

The Baroness has been instrumental in the emergence of rubber from the darkness of dungeons into the bright lights of the silver screen, high fashion catwalks and red carpet award shows. Over the past 20 years she has come to be known as “The Grand Dame of Latex”.

During her twenty years of exploring the unique properties of latex and its construction, The Baroness has influenced the fashion industry through collaborations with Lacoste, NYC men’s wear designer Patrik Ervell, women’s wear designer Nourish Ferrari, and Opening Ceremony. Her inflatable straight jacket was exhibited in the Fashion Institute of Technology museum.

The Baroness’ haute couture designs have made her the go-to designer for an A-list of celebrities, latex lovers, and the fashion elite, including Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo (who she dressed for the Met Gala Punk Ball); Performers Lady GaGa, Nikki Minaj, and Beyonce; Victoria’s Secret models Naomi Campbell and Giselle; actress Chloe Sevigny; downtown diva Amanda Lepore; and burlesque dancer Dita von Teese; plus many celebrities whose affection for latex remains private.

As an authority on latex, alternative life styles, and clothing and power, The Baroness and her work have been publicized in countless books and magazines including Valerie Steele’s Fetish, Fashion, Sex and Power; The New York Times fashion section; V magazine; Vogue; The Village Voice; Mademoiselle; Maxim and others. She has been featured on both HBO’s Real Sex and The Discovery Channel.

With her flair for style and artistic vision, The Baroness has performed, lectured and hosted parties, events and fashion shows worldwide. Ten years ago she expanded to her retail boutique in New York’s East Village, with a street-level store and workshop below, where all latex designs are made by hand. This woman-owned business remains the sole latex-only shop in New York.

Other news of note:

During this past summer our workshop was buzzing as I collaborated with Opening Ceremony, producing a limited edition skirt and top in both pink and black latex, for both their many stores around the globe and their website. Once all was delivered I sat down with their blogger and spread the gospel of latex! Read about it on the Opening Ceremony Blog.

This year for birthday festivities myself and latex lovely Alexis held court At Kingston Hall a beautiful huge space with fireplaces and a wicked back room. It was an intimate affaire with good friends, fetishists, fabulous outfits, presents, jewels, and lots of champagne. Master Vito checked out the space for suspension rigs and all agreed that it was the perfect place for my upcoming (see above) Holiday Fetish Retinue party. A lovely start to a fabulous season! See photos here.

You can also see Baroness latex worn by singer Dee Dee Penny of the Dum Dum girls, in their latest video, “Lost Boys and Girls Club” she’s wearing our black short tight skirt paired with a custom kitten top, and indulging in one my favorite fetishes…latex and water! Watch it here.

Stay shiny! Happy Holidays! And I’ll see you at the parties!

Linda Fargo in Custom Baroness Latex Dress at The Met Gala 2013

Custom Latex Dress Walks the Red Carpet!

Custom Couture Latex DressLinda Fargo wears a custom Baroness latex gown to the Met Gala 2013

The Baroness’s custom punk-inspired latex dress made a stunning entrance as it appeared on the red carpet of the annual Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Artj on May 6. Linda Fargo, Senior Vice President of the fashion office and store presentation at Bergdorf Goodman, wore this daring latex design to honor this year’s exhibition, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture.” Hosted by Vogue and attended by A-list celebrities and designers, this red carpet was where the best of the best in the industry were seen and worn.

This is truly the event that lives up to my motto “Any Occasion to Dress is an Occasion to Overdress” and it was a delight to work with Linda, who really embraced the theme and “nailed it” as one of the many blogs about the event said. Surprisingly she was one of the few who took inspiration the rest settled for “nice” designer frocks.

Comments from the Blogosphere and Twitter:

  • Nadine DeNinno said in the International Business Times: “I also can’t omit…Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo from the best dressed brigade”
  • DFR: The Daily Report’s Lieba Nesis: “Linda Fargo, Senior Vice President at Bergdorf’s, nailed the evening’s punk S&M look in a black Baroness dress with silver buckles, leather gloves and a wild hairdo- she always looks simultaneously young and age appropriate- a near impossible feat to achieve.”
  • Elva I Ramirez: “Most *amazing* (and truly punk) #metgala dress came unexpectedly from @Bergdorfs Linda Fargo.”

The May 5 Fetish Retinue in Time-Out New York’s “the Perfect Weekend” Page

My May 5 Fetish Retinue, now held at Affaire, Ave B @ 4th St., was listed in this week’s print edition of Time-Out New York (page 32), under “Your Perfect Weekend”

Calling it “a friendly, not-too-serious kink soiree”, the accompanying photo depicts the hapless Poindexter letting Baroness cards fly after getting kicked in the cojones. The online version is less amusing.

The Baroness Debuts Spring Latex Fashions at Miss Rubber World 2013

Latex Fashions by The BaronessThe Baroness and her latex fashions were the stars of the night at the Miss Rubber World competition—now in its seventh year—Saturday night, April 6th at the Union Square Ballroom. A stunning vision in a vivid shamrock shrug, gold opera-length mitts, matching leggings, and an amethyst bodice and train, The Baroness shone on stage as both premiere latex designer and emcee at Miss Rubber World 2013.

High energy Bhangra music filled the air as eleven models strutted down the catwalk in a spectacular color pallet of metallic copper, silver, and gold; lush violet, glistening amethyst, cool blue ice, and brilliant shamrock green – a fresh change from the black, red, and transparent latex of the standard latex designs. With 20 years of experience, the Grande Dame of the latex scene is already well known for her love of exciting colors and timeless styles.

Latex DressThe crowd favorite was the Heart Dress, drawing exclamations of wonder from the audience. Short and form-fitting in silver with violet hearts at the breast, it combined the best elements of sex, romance, and fun. The Heart Top, cropped below the breasts, was shown in two variations: An elegant violet bodice with contrasting blue ice hearts paired with a matching knee-length pencil skirt; and a Steampunk-inspired look, in copper with gold hearts worn with a separate gold yoke, contrasting copper choker, and pedal pushers trimmed in gold. From another era, the shamrock green halter dress with luminous silver frontal yoke and back trim evoked Space Age chic.

For the exuberant spirit of the younger latex aficionado The Baroness showed her short, flared Flirty Dress in two variations: one in solid shamrock; the other combining a two-toned amethyst skirt and silver bodice.

The Femme Fatale dress was designed for the more sophisticated fetish fashionista. This fitted knee-length dress hugs every curve until it flares slightly at the knee with a contrasting hourglass-shaped front panel. This was shown in two variations: one in copper with violet; the other in dark eggplant and blue ice, worn with matching opera mitts, a short cape, and wired headpiece.

The Baroness’ new line of accessories provided the finishing touches. Each elegant look was paired with wrist or opera-length mitts adorned with adorable contrasting bows. Tightly laced Victorian Mistress collars emphasized graceful necks; a gold capelet with its neatly pleated neckline provided dramatic effect; and reversible collars peeked out from underneath shrugs and jackets.

Crowning the show with the complete collection on stage, The Baroness displayed her gift for creating unique wearable latex couture, resulting in an enthusiastic standing ovation.

The Spring 2013 line and other original latex creations can be purchased at The Baroness’ East Village Boutique located at 530b East 13th Street, between Avenue A & B, in New York City. New designs and new colors are soon to be available online as well.
